On 15 December, the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) released its Draft Integrated System Plan (ISP), which contains no new ‘actionable’ ISP projects for South Australia.
The timely delivery of transmission infrastructure is critical to meet the needs of customers, the South Australian economy and our clean energy future.
In our recently published Transmission Annual Planning Report (TAPR) article, we highlighted the growing electricity demand outlook in SA and identified Mid-North Renewable Energy Zone Expansion and South-East Expansion, as critical projects for South Australia.
We believe the draft ISP underestimates the amount of large industrial loads that will be connecting to the South Australian network, while adopting ambitious timeframes for renewable energy projects in other states. As a result, future ISP projects, namely the Mid North Southern and Northern expansions were not included as ‘actionable’ in AEMO’s Draft ISP.
We will continue to engage with AEMO on developing a Final ISP that reflects the needs of South Australian consumers.
An essential part of that engagement process is to hear from our stakeholders on what is needed to deliver reliable and sustainable electricity transmission services to power homes, businesses and the economy into the future. You can either provide feedback to ElectraNet by emailing Consultation@ElectraNet.com.au or to AEMO via the ISP Consultation Page.
The Final ISP will be published on 28 June 2024 and we will provide an update closer to that time.
