ElectraNet congratulates our customer, Vena Energy, on the energisation of their new solar farm, which forms part of the Tailem Bend 2 Hybrid Project.

This exciting project is moving South Australia closer to its 100 per cent net renewables target and represents further progress on Vena Energy’s Tailem Bend Solar Project, which has been operational since 2019.

ElectraNet Project Manager, Hasan Fayyaz, said, “ElectraNet played a key role in making this customer connection a reality by performing augmentation works and modifications at the Tailem Bend and Coorong 1 substations and connecting a high voltage transmission between the project and the grid.”

“When completed, the Tailem Bend 2 Hybrid Project will have a combined capacity of 128.5 MW derived from the now energised 87 MW solar farm and the upcoming 41.5 MW Battery Energy Storage System,” Hasan said.

Manager New Business, Luke Ballantine, said, “We started the feasibility for this project in 2020, executing the Transmission Connection Agreement in March last year in the lead up to completion of ElectraNet’s construction works in November last year.”

“Vena Energy has been highly collaborative and fantastic to work with once again. It is excellent to see another customer project driving South Australia closer to its 100 per cent net renewables target,” Luke said.

As part of the connection works, ElectraNet also installed new telecommunications infrastructure to bolster system security and site communications.

Miro Tischljar, Executive General Manager Project Execution and Operations at Vena Energy said, “Vena Energy is pleased with the successful energisation of the Tailem Bend 2 solar farm, an important milestone as we prepare for the commissioning of the Tailem Bend 2 Hybrid Project. This is also exciting news for South Australia, as the state targets net 100 percent renewable energy, with our solar farm providing 35,000 homes with clean energy.”

“Vena Energy and ElectraNet have collaboratively worked to expedite energisation of the Tailem Bend 2 solar farm while minimising the impact to Tailem Bend 1 with our on-going commitment to supply green, clean, and reliable energy in Australia”.

We look forward to working with Vena Energy on the future stages of this project.
