Repair work to one of the affected connection points at the switchyard adjacent to Torrens Island Power Station B has passed high-voltage testing and other safety checks.
The connection point is now available for use, allowing generation capacity of 200MW to be reconnected back into the network.
An incident on the afternoon of Friday 3 March 2017 resulted in damage to two connection points, disconnecting approximately 400MW of generation. 220MW of generation from Pelican Point Power Station also tripped off. The loss of supply was immediately compensated through additional import of power from Victoria via the Heywood interconnector.
“Restoration activities have taken place quickly, efficiently and safely. Each item of ElectraNet equipment on the repaired connection point has undergone extensive safety tests,” Steve Masters, the Chief Executive of ElectraNet, said.
“Our work is now focused on replacing the second connection point, which connects another 200MW of generation capacity to the network.”
This second connection point sustained more damage from the incident and needs to be replaced rather than repaired. It is anticipated that these works will take around one to two weeks.
