464The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) has now published its report on the Power System Operating Incident that occurred on 1 November 2015.

The report, which notes the outcomes of ElectraNet’s investigations into the incident, concludes the South East – Heywood transmission line interruption on 1 November 2015 was caused by an incompatible protection relay configuration which tripped to protect the network and resulted in South Australia being disconnected from Victoria.

At the time of the trip, major upgrade works were being done on one of two transmission lines at the South East substation, as part of the project to upgrade the South Australia –Victoria (Heywood) interconnector.

“The unplanned interruption impacted some of SA Power Networks’ and our customers, and we have since made modifications to the South East – Heywood transmission line protection schemes to prevent a similar recurrence,” said Mr Simon Emms, ElectraNet’s Executive Manager Network Services.
