Project Overview
This project will increase the power transfer capability of the Tailem Bend to Tungkillo 275 kV line and the Tailem Bend to Mobilong 132 kV line. By increasing the relevant conductor clearances, the operating temperature of these lines will be increased from 80°C to 100°C rating.
Following the Heywood Interconnector Upgrade project, the next limit on the Heywood interconnector will be the capability of the Tailem Bend to Tungkillo 275 kV line and the Tailem Bend to Mobilong 132 kV line. The majority of benefits of the project in the short term will be realised through increasing the capability of the Heywood interconnector to import power from Victoria. In the longer term, this project will facilitate increased exports of wind power from South Australia. The project is being undertaken as part of ElectraNet’s Network Capability Incentive Parameter Action Plan (NCIPAP) for the 2015-16 to 2017-18 period.
Project scoping and testing of conductor joints are under way prior to detailed design and construction.
