Project Overview

This project will increase the power transfer capability of the Tailem Bend to South East double circuit 275 kV transmission line. By increasing the relevant conductor clearances, the operating temperature of these lines will be increased from 100°C to 120°C rating.

Following the Heywood Interconnector Upgrade project, limitations on the Tailem Bend to South East double circuit 275 kV transmission line will become more apparent.  The majority of benefits of the project in the short term will be realised through increasing the capability of the Heywood interconnector to import power from Victoria.  In the longer term, this project will facilitate increased exports of wind power from South Australia.  The project is being undertaken as part of ElectraNet’s Network Capability Incentive Parameter Action Plan (NCIPAP) for the 2015-16 to 2017-18 period.

Project scope has been completed and testing of conductor joints is under way prior to detailed design and construction.
