Project Overview

The upgrade of ElectraNet's Ardrossan West substation will meet the increasing electricity demands of the area by improving transmission network reliability and augmenting the 132/33 kV transformer capacity.

The revised South Australian Electricity Transmission Code, which took effect on 1 July 2008, stipulates that ElectraNet must have adequate installed transformer and line capacity to supply peak demand under single contingency operating conditions. The upgrade of ElectraNet’s Ardrossan West substation will meet the increasing electricity demands of the area by improving transmission network reliability and augmenting the 132/33 kV transformer capacity.

Two new transformers were energised and loaded by 1 December 2012. The capacitor bank was energised in February 2013. Works will be completed by June 2013.
