Further to our statement issued on 20 February 2020, regarding an incident at our Happy Valley substation involving the discharge of a quantity of oily stormwater on to neighbouring SA Water land, ElectraNet wishes to confirm:

  • The initial remediation works that were immediately commenced after the incident are substantially completed and that ElectraNet expects this process to be finalised next week in consultation with SA Water; and
  • That testing done in accordance with the National Environment Protection Measure confirms there is no risk to the community and no residual  environmental impact.

ElectraNet continues to engage with the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) and SA Water in respect to this matter.

20 February statement

ElectraNet has been managing an incident at its Happy Valley sub-station, which has impacted adjacent SA Water land.

A quantity of oily stormwater was discharged from the sub-station on to neighbouring SA Water land during planned maintenance works.

ElectraNet promptly notified the Environment Protection Authority and SA Water and took immediate steps to contain and rectify the impact.

There has been no impact to drainage lines, the public road or the Happy Valley Reservoir.

ElectraNet takes its environmental responsibilities seriously and is taking all actions necessary to promptly address the issue.
