ElectraNet claims major SA Energy Award

ElectraNet has won a major award at the Australian Institute of Energy’s SA Energy Awards on Tuesday night.

Project EnergyConnect – the new energy interconnector between South Australia and New South Wales, was awarded the Energy Project of the Year.

ElectraNet Chief Executive Officer, Simon Emms, said delivering this major project was a significant milestone for ElectraNet, and congratulated the project team on winning this award.

“At ElectraNet we are focussed on energising South Australia’s clean energy future, and industry awards like this are an acknowledgment of the strides we are taking to achieve this,” Mr Emms said.

“To be formally recognised for this work at the SA Energy Awards is a significant achievement and a credit to everyone involved.

“The transmission network is a key enabler in the transition to renewables and ElectraNet continues to proudly deliver this critical infrastructure.

“Project EnergyConnect will contribute directly to long-term energy security by providing a second major interconnector between South Australia and the rest of the National Electricity Market.

“Our team has done an outstanding job delivering our part of Project EnergyConnect which is going to be transformative, not just for South Australia but for the whole of the country.

“The interconnector will play a crucial role in enabling the transition towards a sustainable and resilient energy system in Australia.”

The new interconnector is between Robertstown in South Australia and Wagga Wagga in New South Wales with an added connection at Red Cliffs in Victoria.

It is about 900 kilometres in length and will have a capacity of 800 megawatts, which is the equivalent of delivering energy to 240,000 households.

There were around 200 jobs created in South Australia during the construction phase, with an additional 250 ongoing jobs.
