Easements

ElectraNet contractors

An easement is a property right that allows ElectraNet to build, operate and maintain its transmission lines across the State. Where a transmission line is located on your property and no easement is shown on your title, Legislation prescribes a statutory easement which allows ElectraNet access rights to undertake maintenance or restoration work.

As the operator and manager of South Australia’s electricity transmission network, ElectraNet representatives may be required to enter your property to gain access to our transmission line.

ElectraNet endeavours to keep property access to a minimum.

As part of our ongoing maintenance, ElectraNet regularly inspects transmission lines across the State to ensure appropriate vegetation safety clearances are maintained and as a precautionary measure prior to the bushfire season.

This schedule of Patrols and Inspections provides an overview of when ElectraNet representatives will be in your region undertaking preventative measures to maintain the current high level of reliability of our State’s electricity transmission network.

Where it is not practical for a vehicle to travel along an easement, alternative access to the easement will need to be available. It is important to ensure your access gates and tracks are kept clear. In addition to providing clear access to the powerlines within a transmission line easement you cannot:

  • construct houses, buildings, pergolas, or other substantial structures; or
  • build or install swimming pools.
