ElectraNet operates and maintains South Australia’s high-voltage transmission network which covers some 200,000 square kilometres of our state.
While the transmission network consists primarily of overhead high-voltage transmission lines, we also operate two critical high-voltage underground transmission cables between our:
The majority of ElectraNet's assets throughout the state are monitored by the company's system control centre via underground fibre-optic cable links.
Underground fibre-optic cable is also in place along both of the abovementioned transmission cable routes, as well as an additional installation between the Keswick Terminal substation and the East Terrace substation (extending along the road reserve of Greenhill Road).
As with overhead powerlines, working near underground cables or contacting underground cables with excavation machinery, can result in serious injury.
If you are a private contractor, local government representative or any other organisation or interested party undertaking development/digging works in South Australia, your first point of contact should be Dial Before You Dig – Australia’s national referral service for information on underground pipes and cables.
Dial 1100, or visit www.1100.com.au to use Dial Before You Dig’s online service guide. This service can provide the exact details of any underground asset – including ElectraNet’s high-voltage and
fibre-optic underground cables.
Subsequently, we can provide you with plans and other assistance, to help prevent any damage or personal injury.
The Department of Transport, Energy and Infrastructure (DTEI) also provides additional information on underground cable clearances.
