ElectraNet’s transmission network operates at mainly 132,000 and 275,000 Volts. However, electrocution can occur without even touching powerlines.
It is important that community members with transmission easements on their properties – as well as operators of heavy vehicles, cranes, farm machinery, light aircraft and recreational vessels – are fully conversant with appropriate safety precautions to be observed around high voltage powerlines.
Your safety is our first priority.
Dangers associated with working or opeating near high voltage powerlines should not be under-estimated. Even working close to powerlines, without actually touching them, can be fatal.
Employees and Contractors
The health and safety of our employees and contractors is of prime importance to ElectraNet, as demonstrated by our comprehensive health and safety program and our exceptional record of no lost-time injuries.
Throughout 2006–07, ElectraNet continued to surpass the Australian electricity standard and, at 30 June 2007, is on its way to establishing a safety record for energy sectors throughout the world, having achieved over twelve years with no lost-time injuries.
ElectraNet is committed to the health and safety of its contractors, and we help ensure this by providing incentives to all contractors to achieve high safety performance. We are pleased that several companies gained Contractor Endorsement status with ElectraNet during 2006–07.
