Interconnector Feasibility

National Electricity Market

South Australian Interconnector Feasibility Study

On 16 February 2010, ElectraNet and the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) announced their intention to conduct a joint feasibility study of transmission development options that could economically increase the interconnector transfer capability between South Australia and other National Electricity Market (NEM) load centres. The study is important in light of South Australia’s extensive renewable energy resources and their ongoing development potential.

ElectraNet and AEMO will held a stakeholder forum on the 20 April 2010 to brief market participants and other interested parties in relation to the joint feasibility study that is now underway. The purpose of the forum was to provide information to interested parties about the study including, market development scenarios being considered, incremental and Greenfield augmentation options to be investigated, and market modelling to be undertaken.

The forum provided an opportunity for stakeholders to provide input to the study, however if you would like to provide further input or feedback the study team is interested in hearing from you. The slides from the forum and response to further questions asked on the day can be found at AEMO’s website.
