Since 2004, ElectraNet has added thirteen wind farm generator connections including nearly fifty per cent of Australia’s installed wind capacity.
And we have worked with government and industry bodies to facilitate changes to the National Electricity Rules intended to facilitate network extensions to connect remote energy resources.
Some of our key achievements to date are:
In collaboration with AEMO, we have secured the release of additional export capacity over the South Australian to Victoria interconnectors – an increase from 460MW to 580MW – with the prospect of further increases into the future.
With AEMO, we brought together expertise to undertake a feasibility study of electricity transmission development options to increase the interconnector transfer capability between South Australia and other National Electricity Market load centres.
With the Green Grid Forum, we are investigating the feasibility of a transmission solution required to facilitate the harnessing of large-scale wind generation on Eyre Peninsula.
With the Resources and Energy Sector Infrastructure Council (RESIC) and other industry participants, we are investigating the opportunity for electricity transmission network extensions to facilitate the economic connection of remote mining loads and generation sources to the electricity transmission network.
We have developed a nodal connection approach to maximise the capacity of South Australia’s existing electricity transmission network for generator connections in a way that increases access and distributes connection costs among multiple connecting market participants.
