National Electricity Rules

The National Electricity Rules (also referred to as the NER or ‘the Rules’) govern the operation of the National Electricity Market (NEM).

The Rules are made under the National Electricity Law (NEL) and govern arrangements for registration, market operation, market settlement, system security, network connection, metering, dispute resolution and jurisdictional feedback.

The Rules are maintained and developed by the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) and enforced by the Australian Energy Regulator (AER).

A copy of the current version of the National Electricity Rules (NER) is available on the AEMC website.

ElectraNet plans, develops and operates the South Australian electricity transmission network in accordance with the mandated reliability and security standards set out in the Rules, and complies with the specific power system performance and quality of supply standards also set out in the Rules.
