Weed Control

ElectraNet Project Managers are responsible for the implementation of relevant Environmental Operating Procedures on their respective projects as well as during general maintenance works. Each project develops an Environmental Management Plan (EMP) that includes an environmental risk assessment.

A weed is a plant that establishes itself outside its normal environment.

In order to adequately identify potential weed and pest species, the Project Manager may typically discuss regional issues with the Local Council, Animal and Plant Weed Control Boards and Natural Resource Management Boards regarding the location and nature of the project and or maintenance to gain further information about known weed and pest infestations in the area.

They also source information from general community members and landowners.

Weed management methods adopted by ElectraNet, but not limited to, include:

  • establishing a single entry and egress point to a project site
  • prohibition of the importation of weeds/seeds/propagules or weed infested topsoil material
  • cleaning of all earth moving machinery of soil and vegetation prior to entering and prior to leaving each individual landowner’s property, and
  • provision of sealed bins for site waste to discourage animal pests.
