On a global scale, ElectraNet is actively involved in facing the challenges of climate change and remains committed to reducing its impact on the planet. Some of the ways we do this include:
- investigating options to make our business carbon neutral
- being part of the Federal Government’s Greenhouse Challenge Plus
- representing the energy sector in the State Government’s environment consultation group
- supporting transmission connections with more environmentally friendly energy technologies such as geo-thermal, wind farms and solar power
- running programs to educate staff about ElectraNet’s environmental responsibilities and issues that impact on the business
- encouraging staff to decrease their personal impact on the planet.
Environmental Policy
ElectraNet’s environmental and cultural heritage planning is integrated into construction works to ensure protection of sensitive locations and habitats.
Operationally, ElectraNet Project Managers are responsible for the implementation of relevant Environmental Operating Procedures on their respective projects as well as during general maintenance works. Each project develops an Environmental Management Plan (EMP) that includes an environmental risk assessment.
ElectraNet’s contractors also produce a Construction Environment Management Plan to analyse and develop strategies within the following areas:
- Emergency Management
- Fire Management
- Flora and Fauna Protection including Vegetation Clearance
- General Weed and Pest Control
- Noise Management [Fact Sheet]
- Protection of Sites of Cultural and Natural Heritage Significance
- Site Access Management
- Solid Waste Management
- Water Quality Protection / Erosion and Sediment Control
