A standard initiative of every ElectraNet Environmental Management Plan (EMP) for a greenfield substation development, is to rehabilitate the construction site and also provide targeted amenity screening.
For example, since 2009 we have undertaken revegetation activities at our greenfield Clare North substation in the Mid North of South Australia, as well as our greenfield Mount Barker South substation in the Adelaide Hills.
We have also continued revegetating our greenfield Tungkillo substation in the Adelaide Hills (an ongoing program since 2007), in conjunction with the Tungkillo Landcare Group and Trees For Life.
These initiatives have involved rehabilitating previously grazed and cropped land, with local native flora species to improve biodiversity and reinstate important habitat for local native fauna.
The targeted revegetation/landscaping project at both the Mount Barker South and Clare substations will continue over several years in conjunction with construction activities, to ensure the transmission assets are adequately screened, to improve both the amenity and biodiversity value of the properties.
