It is our commitment and duty of care to protect valued sites of cultural significance of both Aboriginal and European origin – for communities to preserve, appreciate and enjoy for future generations.
Our aim is to build long-term relationships and partnerships with Traditional Owners during the planning, construction and maintenance of all transmission developments.
ElectraNet initiates comprehensive consultation with Traditional Owners to identify and protect sites of cultural significance.
Detailed ground surveys are often required with archaeologists and anthropologists in which Traditional Owner groups are invited to participate. The survey outcomes are included in each transmission development’s Development Application (DA) and Construction Environment Management Plan (CEMP).
During 2010, significant progress was achieved in formalising a Relationship Agreement with the Kaurna people.
In recognition of the need and benefits of working together in a collaborative and respectful way, ElectraNet and the Kaurna Heritage Association will embark upon an exciting journey in 2011, where we will grow our relationship under the framework of this Relationship Agreement.
This is a first for a non-mining industry participant in South Australia and places ElectraNet as a leader in collaborative relationships with Traditional Owners.
