Development and Projects

Development Executive, Greg Rice

ElectraNet has developed a long term vision for the transmission network in South Australia, Network 2025 Vision. ElectraNet works closely with the South Australian State Government, industry sector bodies and regional development boards to identify new opportunities and provide guidance and direction on future transmission projects.

ElectraNet remains committed to the State’s long term need for an electricity transmission service that is safe, provides security of supply, is capable of meeting growing electricity demand, and is reliable, efficient, responsive and sustainable.

Development Approvals & Community Awareness

Securing appropriate Development Approvals is essential for the timely delivery of identified transmission line and substation developments required to meet the growing demand for more power.

Pursuing transparent communications as part of the Development Approval process is a cornerstone of ElectraNet’s previous development successes and ongoing acceptance by regional communities. We believe that to provide communities with efficient and effective services we must listen and respond to the needs of key stakeholders and the community as a whole.

We listen. We energise.

Construction and project management

ElectraNet recognise the importance and scale of the unregulated business growth within our business and have positioned the internal organisation structure accordingly.

Regulated Projects

The Network Portfolio Group ensures the successful execution of regulated capital projects in a timely, cost effective, safe and reliable manner to agreed quality standards. In 2006-2007, ElectraNet spent around $103 million on regulated capital works.

South Australia will benefit from a $780 million upgrade to its transmission network over five years, commencing July 2008. The revenue proposal for the period 2008-09 to 2012-13 foreshadowed the increase in spending on the transmission network from July 2008 to meet growing demand for electricity and to replace ageing assets.

Unregulated Projects

ElectraNet provides transmission services to direct-connect customers, connecting the straight into the National Electricity Market via the South Australian transmission network. ElectraNet’s aim is to supply competitive electricity transmission services and provide the highest safety and reliability outcomes for both South Australian and National Electricity Market customers. ElectraNet recognise the importance and scale of the unregulated growth within our business and have positioned the internal organisation structure accordingly. This enable’s ElectraNet to deliver commercial value projects, to unregulated customers. ElectraNet’s Customer Portfolio Group have ownership of all unregulated projects and related processes and provide ElectraNet with a vehicle for driving general service delivery, customer service with a commercial focus across the business.

Dual Contractor Agreement

Delivery of projects is outsourced to contractors through a tender process. Contractors enter a Dual Contractor Agreement (DCA), providing ElectraNet with secured resources to meet the program of work scheduled over the next five year revenue period.
