Ryan Atkinson, Graduate Engineer

With a double-degree in electrical and electronic engineering, Ryan Atkinson wanted to work in a challenging environment with a specialist company in electricity transmission. A company that managed a large portfolio of major capital projects and was recognised world-wide for its service excellence.

Ryan's desire was to grow his basic power systems knowledge, design and management skills, and also to gain practical experience in work methods and scheduling. He wanted to work alongside highly-skilled inhouse project management professionals at the outset of his career.

Ryan achieved a first-taste of the dynamic work-life at ElectraNet through securing undergraduate vacation work with the company. Ryan was then accepted into ElectraNet’s Graduate Program and is now enjoying even greater opportunities than he had ever imagined.

Primarily working on ElectraNet’s $200 million Adelaide Central Reinforcement (ACR) Project, as well as a transmission connection for AMCOR’s glass factory in Roseworthy, Ryan has also undertaken additional study at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and received supplementary training and mentoring in personal development skills such as public speaking.

'While I’m technically a Graduate Engineer, my colleagues and peers at ElectraNet refer to me as a Construction and Site Engineer, which I’m really proud of.'

'I’ve coordinated the logistics of site works with other utility and service providers, and along with all other employees, am personally responsible for upholding ElectraNet’s stringent quality assurance and safety standards.'

'The opportunity to travel to Perth to be trained in CDEGS software was brilliant and I’ve also attended a seminar on the Gold Coast – as well as undertaking extra study at QUT.'

'Working on the ACR Project has been an incredible opportunity. The Project Manager is caring and understanding – and even though he’s always very busy, he always makes time for my multitude of questions.'

'Through ElectraNet’s Graduate Program, my skills have improved every day.'

'The theory, design work and

field opportunities provided by

ElectraNet’s Graduate

Program have been

outstanding.'

'I’ve been to South Korea

twice, to carry-out 275kV

transmission cable factory

test inspections...'

'And by overseeing the

installation and joining of

that cable in the field,

I will have witnessed the

installation from start

to finish!'
